A Terraced Garden in Heaton Mersey
A terraced garden in Heaton Mersey needed a new design to tie the upper and lower levels together. The original steps were in such a state of disrepair that the client rarely ventured to the lower level of their garden, where there is a large sweeping lawn. The upper level had an existing stone terrace plus a pokey patch of lawn that the client would be happy to get rid of.
We decided to make the main feature of the change in levels a very grand and generous set of steps. These can be seen from the main window of the house where the client enjoys relaxing. They now have a view of the garden they can enjoy at any time.
We have been impressed with the professionalism of both Louise and her landscape team. Louise consulted with us throughout the entire process, giving us the confidence that the considerable investment in our garden would be well spent.

We could now dispense with the tiny patch of grass on the upper lever, making way for deep planting beds of a romantix mix of perennials and grasses. The upper dining terrace enjoys view across this lush planting, and a line of pleached trees form the edge of the upper area. Climbing roses have been introduced to climb up a number of metal obelisks to add height.
The steps have been built in such a way that they run along into a terraced vegetable garden. Some of the steps form the actual raised beds, with steps at either side providing the access to each bed. The client is now really enthusiastic about what they can grow, and enjoy the fact that much more of their garden is used than they ever imagined possible.
